First pole for Hamilton in turbulent Hungarian qualifying
Norris and Piastri head McLaren charge
Hamilton beats Verstappen and Norris to Hungarian GP pole in qualifying thriller
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton charged to his first pole position of the season in a dramatic and incident-filled qualifying session for Hungarian Grand Prix.
The seven-time world champion produced a stunning final lap to snatch pole from championship leader Max Verstappen by just 0.044 seconds, with Lando Norris completing the front row for McLaren.
It was Hamilton's first pole since the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix and Mercedes' first since the Spanish Grand Prix in May.
The session was red-flagged twice, once for a crash involving Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, and again for a spin by Hamilton.
Hamilton was able to recover from his spin and put in a brilliant final lap to secure pole.
Verstappen was left to rue a mistake on his final lap that cost him pole, while Norris was delighted to qualify third for his home race.
